Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputies, reserve deputies and correctional officers and Lexington County Fire Service firefighters in partnership with Lexington County School District One collected $8,780 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation at the Battle of the Badges charity basketball game, which was held on Saturday, February 4 at Gilbert High School.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Deputy Joe Auckerman, who serves as the resident deputy for the Gilbert, Hollow Creek and Summit communities, coordinated the Battle of the Badges. The Sheriff’s Department team defeated the Fire Service team in the basketball game, which was held at the Gilbert High gymnasium. Nearly 500 citizens attended the event.

The $8,780 that will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation will enable the foundation to grant the wish of Wyatt Boatwright to visit Disney World, Metts said. Wyatt is an 11-year-old Gilbert Elementary School student who is battling a malignant brain tumor.

Battle of the Badges reflects the Sheriff’s Department mission of providing professional law enforcement services that enhance the quality of life for all people in Lexington County, Metts said.
