The
Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Carolina grants the
wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions
to enrich the human experience with hope, strength,
and joy. |
| • |
We serve
children 2 ½ to 18 years of age. Medical eligibility
is determined by each child’s physician. |
| • |
Each
year we grant more than 100 wishes in South Carolina.
We have never turned down a medically qualified South
Carolina child for a wish. |
| • |
The
average cost of a wish is around $5,000. Nearly 90%
of every dollar raised is used to grant wishes. |
| • |
The
most popular wish is a trip to Disney. Disney wishes
include all theme parks, accommodations, transportation
and spending money. |
| • |
Other
popular wishes are for computers, shopping sprees,
celebrity meetings, and room redecoration. Each wish
is as unique as the child making the request. |
| • |
Make-A-Wish
is totally funded from private donations. Most support
comes from individuals, companies, and special events
such as golf tournaments and auctions. |
| • |
Statewide,
Make-A-Wish has 7 employees and about 250 active volunteers.
A team of trained volunteers facilitates each wish. |
| • |
Currently
there are around 70 medically qualified children waiting
for wishes in South Carolina. |
