How the Make-A-Wish® Foundation Began
In 1980, Chris, a seven-year-old boy from Phoenix, Arizona
was diagnosed with Leukemia. Chris wanted more than anything
to become a highway patrol officer, so a group of officers
from the Arizona Department of Public Safety decided to
grant his wish. Chris became the first and only honorary
Arizona State Trooper, and they even gave him a custom-made
uniform, a helmet, and a badge. He also got a very special
ride in the Department helicopter. The young boy's delight
in having his wish granted became the inspiration for the
Make-A-Wish Foundation ®. Since then, more than 150,000
wishes have been granted worldwide, a wish is granted every
41 minutes. |
