“ I just see a little kid with all this heart and all this fight- He's an inspiration to me and all the team and even the coaches. ”

- Phillip Dorsett, wide receiver

From home in Charleston, eight year old Carter has watched many Miami Hurricanes football games but never dreamed he'd see one in person. That changed in October 2014.

Eight-year-old Carter from Charleston is a young man full of life. A great day for Carter might involve running outside, perhaps building a science experiment and then watching a Miami Hurricanes football game with his dad. When Carter was diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia, a condition that affects the blood cells and bone marrow in his body his family wanted him to be able to focus on joy -not sadness or the fear of a bone marrow transplant. Make-A-Wish met with Carter to help fulfill that mission. His wish? To go to a Miami Hurricanes football game and meet the players.

In October 2014, Carter and his family drove to Miami where the University of Miami set into motion one of the most magical weeks a boy could ever dream of. The Hurricanes staff and team embraced Carter and his family, they knew instinctively how this wish could impact Carter for years to come. From a tour of the facilities, to getting his very own uniform, to running out on the field with a mascot to making a touchdown run, Carter got to experience it all. He even gave a press conference. His new teammates held him up high in the air and shouted his name in celebration - a celebration of his spirit and his courage.

"It's kind of uncertain if he'll be able to play football in the future, so it's kind of cool for him to come here and have his dream realized." - Jessie (Carter's Mom)

On October 11, 2014 Carter was a special guest in the Miami vs. Cincinnati football game. He received the game ball. Carter gained more than a football jersey - he was given hope and encouragement. These gifts will be a source of comfort during any trials he might face when he heads back home.

"We'll be thinking of Carter and we'll be with him every step of the way. He's a Hurricane and he's part of our team now and we can't wait to see him again." - Al Golden, Head Coach, University of Miami
