Gaining Strength with Guidance from an Equestrian

Shelliehero

“ 16-year-old Shellie met equestrian rider Beezie Madden and found a renewed sense of strength. ”

Shellie loves horses. She loves the feeling of swiftly gliding across the ground, the strength of jumping a hurdle and the power of being strong and in control.

Shellie's autoimmune rheumatic disease has often left her body feeling weakened. Looking forward to her wish gave Shellie the movitation to fight the inflammation which has caused her pain.

On wish day, with much excitement the sixteen-year-old strode into the stable to meet her favorite equestrian rider, Beezie Madden. Shellie eagerly absorbed all the knowledge that Beezie could share with her about riding horses.

Spending the day on Beezie's 300 acre farm, meeting the horse that won the most Olympic medals and simply spending quality time with Beezie gave Shellie a renewed sense of strength. Most importantly, when Shellie was given the honor of trying on Beezie's Olympic gold medals she gained a power she normally feels while riding - that she is in control and capable of accomplishing anything.

Because of her wish, Shellie now has the resilience to conquer any obstacle life presents and looks forward to continually being inspired by horse riding and the lessons through her wish experience.
