Gaige wishes for a batting cage

Gaige poses with his new batting cage
When Gaige was referred to Make-A-Wish® South Carolina, he was putting on a brave face while undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia at MUSC.

And now, Gaige’s wish to have a batting cage has come true.

For Gaige, this wish has helped him replace fear with confidence, anxiety with hope and sadness with joy.

Gaige's mom, Serena, watched how transformative his wish was from the day it began. She wrote, "Being so far away from home and our family for cancer treatment is definitely not a walk in the park, but it seems like a small price to pay knowing that he’s here receiving life-saving treatment. Now that Gaige knows his batting cage will be done when we get home has truly lifted his spirits! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!"

Now that Gaige’s wish has been granted, he has not been able to stop talking about the life-changing experience. Serena said that Gaige has had a renewed energy and strength since he learned that his wish was coming true.

Gaige's wish was made possible through a charitable donation by Bristol-Myers Squibb. Since 2017, Bristol-Myers Squibb has donated $3 million to grant wishes across the country for kids battling childhood cancer.

"Bristol-Myers Squibb’s generosity allows us to ensure children battling childhood cancer, like Gaige, experience the hope and healing that comes with a wish come true," said Make-A-Wish South Carolina President Misty Farmer. "There are few experiences more powerful than a wish come true."

And Gaige, he wants the world to know what this wish has meant to him.

"Thank you for making my wish come true,” Gaige said.
