April 15, 2019

Make-A-Wish South Carolina today announced Misty Farmer as its new President and CEO.

Misty2019webA native of Birmingham, Alabama, Farmer moved to Greenville, SC in 2014 to become Make-A-Wish South Carolina’s new Director of Development. Under Farmer’s direction, the chapter has experienced significant growth in total public support and mission delivery.  In 2016 the chapter was awarded the Rising Star Award by Make-A-Wish® America, and for four consecutive years, the national organization has recognized the South Carolina chapter with Wish Achievement and Fundraising Achievement awards.

A committed advocate for children and a passionate development professional, Misty has more than sixteen years of successful fundraising experience in a nonprofit setting.  Prior to Make-A-Wish South Carolina, she served in key development positions with the Children’s Hospital of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Commenting on her new role, Farmer said, "I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our talented staff and board of directors to lead our chapter to new heights.  Make-A-Wish is an incredible organization, and it is a privilege to lead our team in providing life-changing wish experiences to children battling critical illnesses.  I am dedicated to helping our chapter achieve its vision to grant the wish of every eligible child in our state."

In recognition of her achievements, Misty was promoted to Vice President of Advancement last September.  Upon the departure of the former CEO, the Board of Directors unanimously approved appointing Farmer as the Interim President and CEO and are thrilled to announce her as the next CEO to lead the chapter to the next level of success.

Board Chair Jon Taylor stated, "On behalf of the Board of Directors, we couldn’t be more pleased with this promotion for Misty.  She has become the common thread throughout the organization and we believe her background in development coupled with her compassion to help critically ill children receive a life-changing wish will set the pace for moving our mission forward."

Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Make-A-Wish South Carolina granted 207 wishes last year, averaging to a wish every forty-eight hours. The chapter receives funding through private donations, individuals, companies and special events.
