Karen Lucht, regional development officer of Make-A-Wish South Carolina, said, “It’s wonderful that the people and business community in the greater Myrtle Beach area have rallied around this exciting event to benefit Make-A-Wish. Our chapter is celebrating 35 years of wish granting in South Carolina and we’ve been fortunate to have had the support of the Grand Strand community over the years. The organization of this event demonstrates how much the coastal community is ready to help for many more years.

This event is key to increasing the awareness and impact of our mission in the coastal Carolina area. Funds raised from this event will contribute to our ability to grant wishes to local kids. A wish isn’t just a nice, heartwarming experience. It’s a necessity that gives kids the mental stamina to face their illness and fight it. Community partners are essential to making wishes happen.”

Lucht continued to say, “Myrtle Beach is an important part of the Make-A-Wish experience for our kids and also as a destination for wish kids from other states. In the last few months alone, we’ve been able to grant wishes to three children from the Myrtle Beach area.”

Stephanie Parsons, General Manager of Wicked Tuna, added, “Last year, we had a very successful ‘Caroline’s Galaxy’ fundraising drive for Make-A-Wish where we donated all the proceeds from young Caroline’s delicious dessert. This year, we wanted to do something bigger. So, we reached out to some of our business partners to invite them to join us in hosting Wicked Wishes. The response has been beyond our expectations as our on-board sponsors are committing monetary donations, good/services, time, and resources to throw this exciting event. We expect a big turn-out and a successful fundraising event. Our collective vision is to make Wicked Wishes an annual event”.

ABOUT MAKE-A-WISH SOUTH CAROLINA

Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. A wish is granted every 34 minutes, on average, somewhere in the U.S. and its territories. Together with a community of donors and volunteers, Make-A-Wish South Carolina granted 209 wishes last year.  The chapter receives funding through private donations, individuals, companies and special events.
