Cody, best known as "Deuce" to all who know him, loves fishing. Like, really loves fishing.
Growing up with cystic fibrosis in Woodruff, S.C. has created many challenges throughout the 14-year-old’s childhood that were often restricting. His childhood has not always been as he and his family would like it to be but Deuce has found pleasure in family bonding time and the peaceful pursuit of fishing.
After being referred to Make-A-Wish, Deuce was asked what his one true wish would be and without hesitation he answered, “I wish to have a fishing boat.” The spirited young man says when he thought about his wish coming true, he imagined spending time with his dad out on the water, learning to drive the boat and taking it to the beach so he can relax and just enjoy spending time with his family. Now, he is no longer dreaming.
Make-A-Wish worked with Cabela’s in Fort Mill to help make Deuce’s wish come true. Cabela’s organized a day-long event for Deuce to enjoy by working with community partners. The morning began with a small fishing tournament on private ponds for Deuce.
Following the tournament, Cabela’s hosted a weigh-in complete with a trophy.
Lastly, Deuce's wish was revealed live at their Fort Mill store.
We thank Cabela's and the other community partners for their support and together, celebrate the power of a wish come true.
